Instagram Launches New Teen Accounts
Here's what you need to know...
An event called 'Screen Smart' recently took place at Franklin Heights High School in Columbus.
This event, put together by Meta and the National Parent Teacher Association, helped parents and teens learn about using social media safely.
They focused on the new teen accounts on Instagram.
What's New with Teen Accounts?
Instagram launched special accounts for teens in September. These accounts have some neat features to keep kids safe:
1. They're set to private by default
2. There's a 'hidden words' option to block mean or sensitive words
3. Parents can see who their child is messaging without reading the messages
Many people who went to the event said it was really helpful.
They learned about ways to control what they see and do on social media, and about possible risks.
Why This Matters
'Screen Smart' shows how we can make social media safer for teens. It helps parents and kids talk openly about what they do online. T
The event was so popular that Meta and the National Parent Teacher Association are planning more 'Screen Smart' events in other cities.
